Last Updated:      July 24, 2025

Length:                Riverwalk; 0.7 miles

Difficulty:            Easy. Flat paved trail.

Directions:

Starting from Windsor Meadows State Park [Northern End]; From I-291 westbound take Exit 3 to Deerfield Rd and head left. Follow road around to Windsor Ave (Route 159) and turn left. Take your first left along E Barber St and follow to the park & boat launch. Trail starts on your right.

The Windsor River Trail in Windsor is an offshoot of the Capt. John Bissell Trail in South Windsor which connects East, to the Charter Oak Greenway in Manchester. It travels South, along the Connecticut River and will eventually connect to the Riverfront Trail in Hartford. Another trail is located to the North, in Windsor called the Windsor Center River Trail .

Starting from Windsor Meadows State Park [Northern End]; A boat launch and picnic tables are located here.

Note; Northwest of the parking lot, is the trailhead for the Capt. John Bissell Trail which travels East, over the Connecticut River into South Windsor.

The paved Windsor River Trail begins from the Southeastern End of the parking lot and heads South, along the Connecticut River. The trail meanders through the river's floodplain with several river overlooks. At 0.4 miles the trail turns inland, West, as it encounters Deckers Brook. After crossing a bridge over the brook the trail heads North, past an industrial building with the RR tracks in sight and then abruptly ends after 0.7 miles next to a large Beech tree and open fields.

Future plans call for continuing the trail South, across Deckers Brook to a new park (See Map Below) being planned in Hartford. See; Riverfront Trail .

The overall development of the new park will include a 9-acre cove for a paddle sports center and a riverfront walk across the property that will connect the Windsor and Hartford trails.
