Length: Walton Woods Path; 2 mile Outer Loop.
Difficulty: Easy. Flat paved trail.
From I-990 take exit 3 to John James Audubon Pkwy. After 0.6 miles turn left into the Town of Amherst parking lot. Take your first left, then right towards the Courthouse. The paved trail begins just right of the Courthouse.
The Walton Woods Path is a series of trails winding around Walton Woods Park. There are many loops and intersecting paths you can take. I describe the outer most loop around the park.
Starting from Amherst Courthouse ; Travel past the Courthouse along the paved Walton Woods Path before entering the woods. Quickly come to Lake Audubon and an intersection. I started out heading left (north) alongside the lake. Pass by a Spur trail on your left at the top of the lake. You come to an intersection at 0.4 miles. Head left (right is a short loop). Here the trail winds through thick woods before skirting residential buildings. Lots of Spur trails out to the residential neighborhoods. Come to Walton Pond at 0.8 miles and another intersection. Head straight alongside the pond and you'll come to the Walton Pond Center (swimming pool, tennis courts). Travel around the center and tennis courts, then alongside a parking lot back to a wide paved trail. Head back towards the pond, past a pavilion and come to another intersection. Head left back into the woods to another intersection at 1.3 miles. Head left back alongside Lake Audubon to another intersection. Head left to yet another intersection (left is a spur out to a road) and keep right along the wide trail. Several spur trails on your left leading out to roads. Bear left at the next intersection at 1.8 miles and this brings you back alongside Lake Audubon and some benches. Just past the benches on your left is the spur to return you to the Courthouse parking lot after a 2 mile Loop.
