Length: Steele Brook Greenway; 0.4 miles+
Difficulty: Easy. Flat stone-dust trail.
Directions:
From Route 8 Northbound take exit 37 to Route 262 and head left. Travel 1.6 miles to Echo Lake Rd and continue straight another 1.3 miles to Deland Field parking lot on your right. Exit the parking lot and head left along the sidewalk to where the Steele Brook crosses Echo Lake Rd.
From Route 8 Southbound take exit 37 to Echo Lake Rd and head right. Travel 3.1 miles to Deland Field parking lot on your right. Exit the parking lot and head left along the sidewalk to where the Steele Brook crosses Echo Lake Rd.
The Steele Brook Greenway is a planned 4.6 mile trail alongside Steele Brook. The first section has been completed along the middle section. Long term plans seek to link the greenway into the regional Naugatuck River Greenway .
Starting from Echo Lake Rd & Steele Brook [Northern End];
Note; A narrow paved trail heads North alongside Steele Brook before quickly ending near a dam on Heminway Pond.
Follow the sidewalk West along Echo Lake Rd to Siemon Company Dr and turn left, South on-road. You'll pick up the stone-dust Steele Brook Greenway on your left after 0.2 miles. The trail now travels alongside the brook behind the Siemon Company building. Cross a couple of small bridges before the trail currently ends, as of Sep 2023, at French St after 0.4 miles. Steele Brook Greenway
Note; The next section has been designed in 2023 and will continue the paved Steele Brook Greenway South where it will connect to a completed section at UNICO Fields.
Here you'll find sports fields, Dog Park and the UNICO Field parking lot. I haven't checked out this next section. The paved trail travels South alongside Steele Brook before coming to Main St (Route 73) where you'll find an information board.
