The Steele Brook Greenway is a planned 4.6 mile trail alongside Steele Brook. Long term plans seek to link this trail with the regional Naugatuck River Greenway

Steele Brook Greenway; Northern Section:

Starting from Echo Lake Rd & Steele Brook [Northern End];

Note; A narrow paved trail heads North, between Steele Brook & Deland Field, before quickly ending near a dam on Heminway Pond

Follow the sidewalk West along Echo Lake Rd to Siemon Company Dr and turn left, South on-road. You'll pick up the stone-dust Steele Brook Greenway on your left after 0.2 miles. The trail now travels alongside Steele Brook, behind the Siemon Company building. Cross a couple of small bridges before coming to *French Street after 0.4 miles

Note; A gap, between the next section, as of May 2024.

Steele Brook Greenway; Southern Section:

Starting from Main Street [Southern End]; Map Board. The Steele Brook Greenway crosses an iron bridge over Steele Brook to an overlook of some small falls. The briefly, stone-dust trail, soon follows a hard packed dirt & grass road Northwest, along Steele Brook, past open fields. Come to the UNICO Fields parking lot and a dirt road at 0.3 miles.

Note; Left along this road will take you to Watertown Dog Park.

Note; Sports fields and a Porto-Potty straight ahead. Also a stone-dust trail travels between the sports fields & Steele Brook, along the power line, before becoming grass.

Bare right along the dirt road to a stone-dust trail/road that travels Northwest above the sports fields. You then enter the woods and come to an intersection at 0.6 miles. The trail continues as dirt, grass & gravel, turning left down to the power lines where it's all grass at 0.8 miles. This was as far as I went. Tough riding on grass. The trail will continue Northwest to *French Street, although a bridge may need to be installed. See; Project Area Below.
