Last Updated: October 5, 2011
Length: Seaside Trail; 1.1 miles.
Difficulty: Easy. Flat stone-dust rail trail.
Directions:
From Route 3 take exit 16 to Route 44. Take the first exit to Commerce Way and turn left (north). Turn right on Cherry St and follow to Route 3A (Court St).
To Start from the Hedge Road parking lot; Turn left on Route 3A and take your first right on Hedge St. This will bring you to the northern end of the trail and parking lot on your right.
To start from Nelson Street Park; Turn right on Route 3A and take a left on Nelson St after less then a mile. This will bring you to the southern end of the trail at Nelson Street Park.
The Seaside Trail follows the rail bed of the Old Colony Railroad. In 1845 a line between Boston & Plymouth was opened.
Starting from the Hedge Road parking lot; The stone-dust Seaside Trail travels south, set back a bit from Plymouth Harbor. The old RR tracks are still in place along your right as you travel along a residential corridor. After 0.5 miles you'll pass an access path to the beach. You come to the Nelson Street Parking lot at 0.9 miles. Head left where the trail parallels the beach and takes you past a sprinkler park and playground. Trail ends after 1.1 miles.
Note; You can continue into Plymouth and visit PILGRIM MEMORIAL STATE PARK . I haven't checked out this next section yet. Head up Nelson St and turn left on Water St. Here you'll find a BIKE LANE that travels south along Water St. Pass by a parking lot on your left at 1.4 miles.
Note; If you enter the 2nd entrance and go to the back right corner of the parking lot a paved trail will bring you to the Plymouth Harbor Boat Ramp. Here you can walk the Plymouth Breakwater out into the Harbor. Then head back out to Water St.
Continuing south along Water St you'll come to a traffic circle at 1.6 miles where the BIKE LANE ends. Continue on-road along Water St and come to PILGRIM MEMORIAL STATE PARK after 1.9 miles. To be continued.
