Last Updated: April 14, 2011
Length: Redstone Rail Trail; 1.6 miles
Difficulty: Easy. Flat paved rail trail.
Directions:
From the junction of Routes 83, 186 & 220 in East Longmeadow:
To Start from the Maple Street parking lot [Northern End]; Travel west on Maple St and the parking lot will be on your left.
To Start from the Denslow Road parking lot [Southern End]; Follow Route 220 south for 1.6 miles. Turn right on Denslow Rd. Parking lot will be on your right.
The Redstone Rail Trail follows the abandoned rail bed of the Boston & Maine RR. The old East Longmeadow Train Station still stands near Maple St. This station was used for moving rock from the nearby Red Stone Quarry, hence the name "Redstone Rail Trail".
Starting from the Denslow Road parking lot; Head north along the paved trail as it travels through an industrial corridor. You come to the Industrial Drive parking lot at 0.4 miles, along with a sign board, before crossing same road. Cross over Chestnut St and you'll pass by a spur trail to FAMILY BIKE just shy of a mile. You then pass by the old East Longmeadow Train Station and come to the Maple Street parking lot at 1.6 miles where the trail currently ends.
