Directions:

To Start from Steamboat Wharf in Nantucket; Take one of the Ferry's to Nantucket Island. You can bring your own bike or rent one on the Island.

There are multiple paved paths on the island of Nantucket. Most travel alongside roads with the exception of a very short section that follows the old rail bed of the former Nantucket Central Railroad Company. This follows a causeway through a tidal marsh. The railroad, which was a 3' narrow gauge, linked the village of Nantucket with the village of Siasconset. Built in 1881, the line closed in 1917. Originally, the company was known as the Nantucket Railroad, but following the bankruptcy of the company in 1895 the name was changed. The last railroad car left on the island was converted to a restaurant known today as the Club Car. You can spot it on the cobblestone Main St. For more information visit; BIKE NANTUCKET & VISIT NANTUCKET .

From Steamboat Wharf you'll need to travel on-road to reach any of the paved paths. All the Paths are connected on the Island, with just a few short on-road connections between some. I've divided the various Paths into 3 Groupings: The West Side, the South Side & the East Side of the Island. Depending on your plans there are multiple number of ways to create Loops so you can visit the most sites. This includes using town roads for on-road biking (low traffic most places).

Starting from Steamboat Wharf; On-road. Head out Broad St into town.

For the West Side: Bathing Beach Road Path, Cliff Road Bike Path, Dionis Bike Path, Madaket Road Bike Path & Eel Point Connector Path; Turn right on S Beach St to Easton Street. Head straight up N Beach St to reach Bathing Beach Road Path after 0.7 miles or left along Easton Street, then right up Cliff Rd to reach Cliff Road Bike Path after 1 mile. The rest of the trails are connected.

For the South Side: Madaket Road Bike Path, Cisco Bike Path, Surfside Bike Path, Miacomet Bike Path, South Shore Bike Path, Fairgrounds Road Bike Path & Amelia Drive PathContinue along Broad St and take your first left on S Water St (one-way). Part of this street consists of cobblestones. Turn right up Main St (cobblestone) and follow to Milk Street at 0.6 miles. If you continue straight up Main St (regular pavement) you'll come to the Madaket Road Bike Path after 0.8 miles at the traffic circle or from Milk Street turn left and follow to Prospect Street at 0.7 miles. Straight along Milk St Ext will quickly bring you to the Cisco Bike Path at 0.8 miles or Turn left along Prospect Street and you'll pick up the Surfside Bike Path on your right after 0.9 miles. The rest of the trails are connected.

For the East Side: Nantucket Rail Trail, Sconset Bike Path, Polpis Road Bike Path, Millstone Connector, Old South Road Bike Path, Airport Road Path & Nobadeer Farm Road Path; Continue along Broad St and take your first left on S Water St (one-way). Part of this street consists of cobblestones. This leads to Washington St (two-way). Follow to it's end (Washington St Ext) where you'll pick up the Nantucket Rail Trail at 0.7 miles. Cross the causeway over the tidal march, Goose Pond on your right, to Goose Pond Lane. Turn right out to Orange St and head left. Come to the James Coffin Memorial Rotary after 1.3 miles. Left alongside Millstone Rd is the Sconset Bike Path. Straight alongside Old South Rd is the Old South Road Bike Path. The rest of the trails are connected.
