Difficulty:             Easy. Flat paved rail trail.

Directions:

Starting the Union Road parking lot [Eastern End]; From I-90 take exit 52A to William St and head east to Union Rd. Turn left and travel 0.7 miles. On your right spot Niagara Metals (left is the Erie County Water Authority). Turn right, then an immediate left north between Union Rd and Niagara Metals. This will bring you to a small parking lot.

Starting from the Stradtman Street parking lot [Western End]; From I-90 take exit 52A to William St and head west. Travel 0.8 miles to Harlem Rd and turn right. Take your first right on RV Derenda Ln then a quick left on Stradtman St. When you come to a sharp corner the parking lot is straight ahead.

The Lehigh Valley RR Rail Trail, also known as the Cheektowaga Historic Rails to Trails follows the rail bed of the former Lehigh Valley Railroad, which hauled coal from Pennsylvania up to Buffalo and Lake Erie. It also travels alongside an active RR line.

Starting the Union Road parking lot [Eastern End]; The paved Lehigh Valley RR Rail Trail actually begins off Union Rd before following a ramp up to the parking lot where it then heads west over Union Rd via a pedestrian bridge. An active RR line parallels along your right. Soon you follow a residential corridor along your left. Pass by Raymond Park and come to an intersection at 0.8 miles.

Note; Left takes you to the Raymond Park parking lot. Playground and sports fields.

Travel underneath I-90 and look right to spot a large Rail Yard. Just shy of 1.8 miles you'll pass another intersection.

Note; Left takes you to the Stradtman Street parking lot.

Continue underneath Harlem Rd where the trail turns south away from the active RR tracks. Come to Strawn Ave (residential) and follow out to William St and a cross-light on your right. Cross the street then head right along a wide sidewalk over Medina St where you'll pick up the paved Lehigh Valley RR Rail Trail on your left at 2.2 miles. Follow the trail back out to Medina St at 2.5 miles where the trail ends.
