down Elm St on your right) next to the old Lakeport

After 5.3 miles you’ll come to
Osborne’s Agway on your left. A small parking lot is located next to the trail
The WOW Trail runs adjacent to the railroad tracks currently used by the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad and within sight of Lake Opechee. Originally, this line was the Boston, Concord & Montreal Railroad (later absorbed by the Boston & Maine Railroad. The trail travels west to the Belmont town line where it connects to the Lake Winnisquam Scenic Trail. This trail utilizes part of the old rail bed, as well as, conservation land along Lake Winnisquam. For more information visit; WOW TRAIL and WINNI TRAIL .
Starting from Elm Street;
The paved WOW Trail begins at the
intersection with Union Ave (small Pocket Park here) traveling south alongside
the RR tracks used for the Winnipesaukee
Just north up Union Ave on your left is the old Lakeport
Freight Depot (1889).
This is an open,
commercial corridor that follows alongside Lake
Opechee on your right, however, few open views of the Lake. Cross Messer St
after 0.8 miles where the trail leaves the RR tracks following alongside the
road. Cross over Jewett Brook, looking
left and spot where the RR Bridge crosses the Brook. Cross Messer St again at
1.1 miles where you’ll pick up the RR tracks again as you enter a residential
corridor. Cross Main St following the brick lined path past the Laconia
Train Station at 1.4 miles. I haven’t checked out
this next section. Cross Pleasant St
where the paved trail travels between New Salem St and the RR tracks. The trail
continues alongside the tracks, crossing Water St before veering right out to
Fair St at about 1.9 miles. Head left across the Brook an you’ll pick up both
the trail and tracks heading right along an industrial/residential corridor.
Soon you’re afforded open views of Lake
Winnisquam. The trail runs between the lake/tracks and Routes 11A
& BUS 3. After 2.5 miles you’ll cross into Belmont, connecting to
the Lake Winnisquam Scenic Trail. I
haven’t checked out this section. The paved trail continues alongside
the road leaving the Lake behind before coming to Leslie Roberts Drive. Turn
right and you’ll pick up the paved trail across this road.
Leslie Roberts Beach is located at the end of this road.
The trail travels
along old Horse Point Rd through NH Conservation lands. I believe the trail is
slightly hilly. The tail then turns right where it rejoins the RR tracks
alongside the Lake. Finally the trail turns left back out to Routes 3 & 11
after 1.8 miles. The Osborne’s Agway parking lot is located here.
