Starting from the Springfield Reservoir parking lot [Southwestern End]; There is a signboard located at the trailhead, which starts past the gate. The wide, paved Springfield Reservoir Trail starts out under a thick Pine tree canopy as it travels North. Mile Markers every 0.5 miles. After crossing over a stone culvert, with a stream heading down the hill, you'll come along the Western Side of the reservoir. Here the trail follows the old Westside Rd. Pass a Porto-Potty at 0.5 miles, followed by a fishing pier and overlook. Just after passing the 2 Mile Marker, the trail heads inland, traveling, around the Northern End of the reservoir, where it then turns South, back along the Eastern Side of the reservoir. Just past the 2.5 Mile Marker, the trail then pulls away from the reservoir again. Pass by a Map Board and benches before the trail ends at a gate after 3.2 miles. The Broad Brook Canal (Roaring Brook) is located here. Old road past here is closed to the public.
