RUTLAND, VERMONT
-BIKE IT OR HIKE IT-
Last Updated: January 29, 2025
Length: Rutland Creek Path; 0.9 miles.
Difficulty: Easy. Flat paved rail trail.
Directions:
To Start from the Giorgetti Athletic Complex parking lot [Northern End]; From the intersection of Routes 7 & 4 in Rutland travel north on Route 7. Turn left after the 3rd road onto Crescent St. After crossing East Creek turn right up Preville Ave to the parking lot closest to the entrance.
The Rutland Creek Path, when complete, will connect Giorgetti Park South, to the Rutland Recreation Community Center, through the town of Rutland.
Starting from Giorgetti Athletic Complex parking lot [Northern End]; Exit the parking lot and bear left, on-road, South, down Preville Ave to Crescent St. Cross-walk to your right. Then head along Earl St, where you'll pick up the paved Rutland Creek Path after 0.2 miles. Trail winds through open woods with East Creek along your left. Up to your right is the Rutland County Jail as you reach State St. Continue a short distance along Lalor Rd, which leads to the trail. Look left across the creek to spot a large solar installation. Travel underneath a RR bridge and out to West St at 0.4 miles.
This next section was just completed at the end of 2024, so I have not checked it out yet.
Segment 3 continues the trail along the West Side of East Creek, to a bridge over the creek to Meadow Street Park. It follows the creek past ball fields, before turning away from the creek. It then travels past a large solar panel installation and more sports fields out to River St/Dorr Dr after 0.9 miles. Across the street is St. Peters Field.
Future plans call for Segment 5 to continue the trail West, to the Rutland Recreation Community Center (Site of the former College of St Joseph).
Note; I have not checked out this route yet. You can travel East, on-road, along River St (low traffic) where you'll pick up a wide, cement Spur Trail on your left after 0.6 miles. This Spur Trail travels North, along some RR tracks to Franklin St, where it crosses a set old old RR tracks. It then continues alongside the RR tracks to Union St after 0.9 miles. You can then continue on-road (residential) along Union St to Forest St. Right a short distance, then left along School St to Meadows St. Head left to the Meadow Street Park entrance and return to the Rutland Creek Path after a 1.3 mile Loop. See Map.
