Difficulty: Easy. Flat paved rail trail.
Directions:
To Start from the Walter Winter Drive parking lot [Western End]; From I-90 take exit 52E to Walden Ave and travel 5.4 miles east to Central Ave. Turn right and travel underneath the RR bridge. Turn left on Commerce Pkwy and follow to Walter Winter Dr. Parking lot on left.
To Start from the Town Line Road parking lot [Eastern End]; From I-90 take exit 52E to Walden Ave and travel 10.3 miles east to Town Line Rd (Route 36). Turn right and travel 1 mile to the parking lot on your right.
The Lancaster Heritage Trail follows the rail bed of the former Delaware, Lackawanna & Western RR built in 1882 to haul coal. It travels along an East-West corridor. See; LANCASTER HERITAGE TRAIL .
Starting from the Walter Winter Drive parking lot [Western End]; The Lancaster Heritage Trail begins off Walter Winter Dr underneath an iron sign across the trail. Map Board located here. This wide paved trail follows an open corridor East, through woodland with short granite Mile Markers every 0.25 miles. Cross Cemetery Rd at 1 mile. Map Boards at all road crossings. The trail becomes more wooded. Pass by a pond before crossing Pavement Rd at 1.8 miles. Cross Ransom Rd at 3.3 miles and come to the end of the trail after 4 miles at the Town Line Road parking lot.
Proposed 5.1 mile trail to close the Gap between the Lehigh Valley RR Rail Trail West, in Cheektowaga and the Lancaster Heritage Trail East, in Lancaster. See; Map Below.
